A true survivor of the pony wars! 289ci V8, Three-speed with 44,000 miles!
It's is the car that started the war — the pony war that is! Initially introduced on April 17, 1964, the first-generation Mustang threw the world on its ear and sent Chevy and Dodge scrambling back to the drawing board. The concept of the Mustang was championed by Lee Iacocca who had five goals in mind for the pony car: it would seat four, have bucket seats and a floor-mounted shifter, weigh no more than 2,500 pounds and be no more than 180 inches in length, sell for less than $2,500, and have multiple options for power, luxury, and comfort. The design team knocked it out of the park, making one of the most iconic cars on the planet.
The design was so well executed that by 1966, there were very few changes to the car other than exterior trim and some interior options. This low-mileage '66 Mustang is a well-cared-for survivor sporting the original 289ci V8 and three-speed manual transmission showing only 44,000 miles on the odometer. The only noticeable changes are a recent repaint in the factory blue using a base/clear and the upgraded Magnum 500 wheels with white-letter 15-inch tires. All of the brightwork on this car is in great condition, including bumpers, trim, and emblems.
The interior is two-tone blue to match the outside and is in good shape, given its age. The driver's seat does show some expected wear along the welting from getting in and out of it through the years. Otherwise, the interior is virtually flawless. One early design change Ford made was to ditch the instrument cluster shared with the Falcon to go with a round design. Continuing with that theme was the Rally-Pac, a column-mounted tach and clock combo, which this car features. All of the gauges are in working order, and the entire dash shows very nicely. The previous owner installed a retro-radio that appears like-stock but has modern sound.
This Mustang starts right up and purrs like a kitten. If you are looking for a first-generation, cherry version of a Mustang for your garage, this is a terrific example that needs nothing to enjoy right away. Give Art & Speed a call today to view this vehicle.
