1977 Ford Bronco 4x4, Gorgeous, Clean, and Well-Restored - 302ci, C4 Auto, A/C
Is there a hotter nameplate than the Ford Bronco at the moment? We think not. With the introduction of the new 2021 sixth-generation Bronco's throwback styling, demand for the original is only increasing as collectors scramble to get their hands on one built between '66 to '77. Developed to compete against the Jeep CJ-5 and International Scout, Ford marketed the 92-inch-wheelbase Bronco as a compact off-road vehicle — some call it the first SUV.
One of the most sought-after models is 1977 (the last year of the first-generation) because of the comfort features added, such as power steering and power brakes. Additionally, a 302ci V8 was standard, and a C4 automatic transmission was an option — something previous versions lacked.
This particular '77 Bronco is far from stock but received an excellent restoration with some terrific upgrades that make it stand out in a crowd. Firstly, it comes with two factory black tops: a hardtop and a "surrey style" soft top. It sports a rebuilt 302 with some aftermarket goodies, a C4 trans, and many other updates.
The first thing you will notice is the beefier stance from the stock configuration with a coil spring and shackle lift kit. Using Wild Horse springs and Bilstein shocks, this Bronco is ready for off-roading. Throw in the 10.5x15-inch American Racing wheels with 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A's, and you've got a perfect crawler, that also has great road manners.
Finished in a beautiful hue of blue poly, the paint shows well from afar, but with a few minor paint chips on the driver's side. The black-painted bumpers and grille contrast nicely with the chrome headlight bezels, Ford emblem, and Supersport fog lights. Out back, a black spare wheel cover dominates the small tailgate. With front windows that roll up, the passengers don't have to worry about the elements getting on the brand-new interior.
Speaking of the interior, you won't find an original with this many bells and whistles. The floor is newly carpeted up to the new black sport bucket seats. The interior trim, including the dash, is also paint-matched to the exterior, with the door panels sporting a tasteful matte-black diamond plate. Climate control is by way of Vintage Air and works as it should. The Grant steering wheel looks right at home next to the custom billet automatic shift knob. You can't go off-roading without tunes, and this Bronco has it in spades. A KX Kicker four-channel amp and Kenwood head unit control two Bluetooth Kicker 6.5-inch speakers upfront and two Sony 6x9s in the rear. The head unit also has a USB charger and a microphone. Super bright LED lights above and below help you see. Lastly, the Tuffy Security Products console will not only keep your valuable safe, but it houses a remote start button to deter it from being stolen.
A very tidy engine bay houses the rebuilt 302ci engine with approximately 5,000 miles since the rebuild. A Summit Racing 600cfm carb sends fuel through an Edelbrock Performer intake to be fired off by the Ford Performance plug wires before exiting the coated long-tube headers and new exhaust. Factory Bronco finned-valve covers match nicely with the air cleaner. New billet aluminum accessory pulleys, radiator, hoses, wiring, and Optima Red Top battery should keep this wild horse naying for a long time.
This appears to be a well-sorted build with tasteful modifications to improve on the original. At Art & Speed, we'd love to keep it ourselves, but we are only stewards for these fine machines. We'll hate to see it go but know that the next owner will enjoy every minute of it. Come by and take it for a test drive; we think you'll be surprised at how well this Bronco takes on the road.
